Sex. Class. Murder.

The Ruth Ellis story had them all. It was a sensational case that shook conventional 1950s Britain to its core - the glamorous nightclub hostess, the violent upper class lover, six gunshots on a quiet Hampstead street.

Tried and condemned at the Old Bailey and hanged at Holloway Jail, Ruth became the last woman to be executed in Britain. Her fate was sealed by a society quick to judge and slow to listen.

Now her story is retold with urgency and fire.

RUTH is a bold British noir musical that delves into class, sex, power and injustice. In the era of #MeToo, her story of abuse, control and patriarchal judgement feels chillingly contemporary – less a historical scandal than a modern reckoning.

Featuring a score by John Cameron (Les Miserables), Francis Rockliff and James Reader, with lyrics by Caroline Slocock and John Cameron, and book by Caroline Slocock, RUTH transforms true crime into searing musical drama.

Directed by Andy Morahan (Boogie Man) and Denise Silvey (The Mousetrap), RUTH premiered at Wilton’s Music Hall in 2026.
